In recent times some people have said that the phrase “porn for women” isn’t relevant. Women are just as diverse as men so people shouldn’t assume that women like one type of porn, right?
Well, that statement is a little bit flawed. If you’ve looked at this site you’ll see that what can be classified as “porn for women” is actually really varied. It can include romance, hardcore, gonzo, queer porn, trans porn, artistic erotic, extensive storylines, point-of-view, solo male masturbation or pretty much anything else that aims to cater to a female audience. Women’s tastes are diverse and so is porn made for women. There isn’t one single type of content that defines it.
There’s a number of other descriptive terms that we could use to describe the adult content you’ll find here: feminist porn, ethical porn, indie or alternative porn. But this site is “Porn for Women TV” and we rather like that phrase. Here’s why.
The porn industry is still hugely male dominated, both in terms of those making it and those consuming it. The default viewer is male; the default way of presenting sex is with a male gaze, either gay or straight. In regular straight porn, the viewer is assumed to be a man and the woman is the one who is looked at. Female bodies are displayed for male pleasure. The camera angles give priority to this – the man is cut out of the frame, the focus is always on the woman.
On top of that, the scenarios depicted are usually male fantasies where male pleasure is important. Women exist in porn to look appealing and to provide pleasure for the male viewer, in whatever situation best suits the script. The sex depicted typically shows acts that give pleasure to a man – and if the woman is getting pleasure, it must be shown in a way so that the man can visually enjoy it. Even BDSM scenarios where the man is submissive still assume the viewer is male and is putting himself in the place of the male slave.
In short, most porn is for men.
That’s changing, of course, with the growth of female oriented adult sites, films and businesses. But predominantly, the men still get most of the porn.
That’s why the phrase “porn for women” is still relevant and important. It’s a great way to find porn that isn’t for men. It’s essentially a handy search term for blocking out 95% of the porn that’s out there. It’s a way of identifying porn that dares to show female pleasure, to depict sex in a different way, to explore female fantasies and sexual experiences.
“Porn For Women” is the flag that signals a safe, friendly space for women to enjoy porn that isn’t sexist, or degrading, or racist. It’s a handy descriptor that lets people know that the usual porn rules, tropes and cliches don’t apply. And it’s a gateway into a growing world of alternative erotica including feminist porn. It’s still an incredibly useful phrase.
So have a look around Porn for Women TV and enjoy what’s on offer!
